It was his youth, but he passed away suddenly. His colleagues felt sorry for him and his unit regretted him.
Wang Lei, a leading medical figure in Guangdong Province, has worked hard for decades for his beloved medical career. In more than a year after being diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer, Komiks still saw nearly 600 patients. On June 23 this year, he died of illness shortly after his 50th birthday.
The “anti-cancer doctor” who has been dead
Wang Lei, born in April 1969, is a member of the Communist Party of China. During his lifetime, he was the deputy director of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, director of the Third District of Colorectal Surgery Department, and an expert who enjoys special allowances from the State Council. He started working since July 1992 and has been in medicine for nearly 30 years. As the main accomplisher, he won the first prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress in 2007, 2011 and 2018, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016, and also won the honorary titles of Experts in Special Allowances of the State Council and the Ministry of Education’s New Century Outstanding Talent.
A year ago, Wang Lei was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer, and his spleen, 80% of the pancreas, and part of the stomach and most of the nerves near the intestines were cut off. 80% of the nutrition could only be maintained by infusion.
Shouldered in the shadow of “King of Cinema”, he was not strangled. Less than two months after the operation, he reappeared in the clinic, scientific research conference room, and operating room.
For more than a year, Wang Lei has raced with time, treated nearly 600 patients, and participated in the on-stage surgery. Under his promotion, Cinema has formulated the first “Chinese Expert Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Radioprotic Techniques”. Since then, the diagnosis and treatment of patients with radioprotic Techniques is truly well-founded; at the American Clinical Oncology Conference, he and his sick body explained to nearly 10,000 oncologists from around the world that the only colorectal cancer report from China in the field of gastrointestinal tract.
Wang Lei said that suffering from cancer is not something I can choose. I can only choose to live well every day and make some contributions to the country as much as I can. “Although I can’t extend the length of my life, I can dominate the thickness of my life.”
Experts in the field of “unpopular research”
Family familiar with Wang Lei’s Komiks People say that he is a doctor, and his kindness puts patients first in everything.
The outpatient and inpatient patients he has been treated with difficult and complicated diseases, with more than 4,000 people each year. He founded the largest radioactive enteritis diagnosis and treatment center in China, and the number of patients hospitalized for radioactive antonyms ranks among the top in China. Many patients came from other provinces and cities to find their health again.
He is a teacher and takes it as his responsibility to cultivate talents. So far, he has trained 16 graduate students, including 11 doctoral students and 5 master students. The students he trained have all become the best in his respective fields. Inspired by him, over the past five years, his students have published nearly 100 SCI papers in world-renowned journals such as Cancer Cell and Gastroenterolog. They have published more than 0 papers in core Chinese journals, including 3 Chinese core journals, and have edited and translated 3 monographs, participated in the editing of 8 monographs, and obtained 5 patents. He also presided over more than 10 vertical scientific research projects, including one national science and technology support plan, four national natural science fund projects, one doctoral fund project of the Ministry of Education, two key projects of the Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and more than 12 million yuan in scientific research funds.
He is an explorer, and he focuses on the radioactive damage caused by radiotherapy to patients with rectal cancer. The original new method of expanding resection of proximal rectal cancer – “Tianhe surgery” has attracted great attention from the medical community.
He has successively conducted related research on the prevention and diagnosis and treatment of rectal radioactive injuries, the improvement of rectal cancer surgical methods, and the early screening of colorectal cancer, assisted in the development of a new product for intestinal cancer screening, and established two new bowel cancer surgery methods, and formulated two treatment plans and three technologies for intestinal cancer and radioactive injuries, effectively promoting the development of domestic colorectal cancer prevention and diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer.

He is an entrepreneur, deeply grateful to the country and worked hard to build modernization in three places.
After three and a half years of studying for a Ph.D. in the United States, he spent every day in the laboratory, and went at the earliest and returned at the latest every day, and stayed for more than ten hours. He never returned to his country while studying for his PhD in the United States.
After returning to China, starting from 2007, Wang Lei and more than 30 colleagues went to Tianhe District, Guangzhou City, and took root in a nine-story simple building, becoming the “destroyed cattle” of the founding of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.
From the department director, assistant director to the vice president, he insisted on arriving at the hospital at 7 a.m. and going home at 10 p.m., he spent much more time at the Komiks Hospital than at home.
Wang Lei has successively managed scientific research, teaching, personnel, logistics, information and clinical work, presided over the investment plan of Guangzhou Information Benefiting the People’s National Pilot City Demonstration Project, took the lead in launching comprehensive assistance with gastrointestinal diagnosis and treatment services in 62 county-level hospitals in Guangdong Province, and created a national clinical drug research base. Each task was completed extremely well.
