The works reflect the transformation of the SAR for 40 years
Zeng Pingbiao’s works reflect the transformation of the Zhuhai Special Administrative Region. Transportation is one aspect. In 2018, his work “China Bridge – The Road to the Dream of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge” was officially published, telling the whole process of the origin, project establishment, demonstration, environmental impact assessment and construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Last year, this book won the 10th chapter of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee.The 5th “Five One Project” Book Special Award.
In order to record the century-old project of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Zeng Pingbiao began collecting information since 2009 and interviewed successively in 2012. He spent more than 130 people in more than five years to conduct in-depth interviews with key figures such as plan designers, project managers, bridge builders, etc. “I remember that the background information and interview materials I collected were filled with a whole sack.” In 2009, the State Council officially approved the “Hengqin Overall Development Plan”, including Hengqin Island in the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone, and the first demonstration zone to explore the new model of Guangdong-Hong Kong cooperation under “one country, two systems” stood out. Zeng Pingbiao became Hengqin’s “walking observer” and he paid attention to the changes in Hengqin. “I first stepped on Hengqin Island. I went to Komiks on a boat. There were banana forests and vines, and the residents were mainly farmers and fishermen on the island. The highest floor was only 8 floors. In 2019, Hengqin’s GDP grew by an average of 68.32% annually, and the absorption and utilization of foreign capital increased by 136.35% annually.” Zeng Pingbiao recalled.
